What is Hanabi Matsuri?
“Hanabi Matsuri” [花火祭り] is Japanese for “Fireworks Festival”. As such, we hope to conjure a feeling of wonder, nostalgia, carefree innocence, and simplistic joy.
Our mission with Hanabi Matsuri is to create a space that celebrates Japanese pop culture, creativity, and community.
Ultimately, our hope and vision for Hanabi Matsuri would include an umbrella of goods and services that reflect our own undying fandom of Japanese pop culture, such as anime/manga, videogames, art/music, Go/Shogi, language, and travel.
We strive to create a welcoming space where patrons from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, gender, faith, or sexual orientation, can feel safe and connect.
Who are we?
Kenny N. (he/him) is a Dallas-born, Austin-raised, Chicago-refined, and now Seattle-based anime superfan who has spent much of his Millennial upbringing enjoying the medium and trying to connect to others with similar interests. From older shows such as Slayers, to newer titles like Frieren; to obscure shows such as Kare Kano, to uber popular ones like One Piece, Kenny is always happy to talk about anime in all of its glory!
Janet T. (she/her) is a person of refined taste, and much like her interests in Japanese culture, her dynamic pallet for sweets, coffee, and tea has earned her the highest of praises for the creative confectionaries that she has produced from an oven. One of her biggest goals for Hanabi Matsuri, is to create a Seattle-based café where she can show off her incredible skills.
